Technology that removes odours and chemicals from your laundry
How does OdorKlenz work?
Removal of pollutants and odours is an important application area with significant impact on human health and quality of life. Consumer products deploy a variety of technologies including: carbons, absorbents, enzymes, fragrances, talc, sodium carbonate, etc. to try to mitigate or mask the odour.
Many technologies have only limited removal capacities and often no odour elimination and neutralization capabilities. Often the odour chemical contaminates can be released back into the environment which is a major drawback of commonly used odour treatment products.
OdorKlenz® materials are environmentally safe and non-toxic nanocrystalline metal oxides that are scientifically described as highly efficient “destructive adsorbent chemicals.” When these materials come into contact with harmful odour causing chemical agents, the metal oxides’ active sites first capture the chemical then initiate the neutralization process. This type of action is needed for the numerous types of odorous chemicals that possess a variety of different functional groups. The increased surface area, unique physical morphology, high chemical reactivity, and functional porosity, all contribute to the enhanced chemical adsorption and odour neutralizing characteristics.
What does NanoActive mean?
The OdorKlenz products use a technology called Nano-Active® that makes them very effective for chemical neutralization and odour elimination.
However the materials are NOT nanoparticles.
The term nano means many different things and can be applied to many fields of science, technology, and research. Generally it refers to technologies that deal with the special properties of things or matter that that are sized below 100 nm in 2 or 3 dimensions and as materials get smaller, many different physi-cal and chemical phenomena become pronounced.
One example is as the size of the things decreases the chemical reactions or kinetics typically increase. In the case of odour neutralization that would mean faster and more complete elimination of the odour. A drawback though is as materials get smaller in size they could potentially pose a safety concern due to the small size of the particles.
What makes the NanoActive technology special is we get the benefits of the more effective chemical neutralization without the concerns of small nanoparticles. In fact our particles are many times larger than nanoparticles
Patented process
OdorKlenz has a patented process in which they can produce metal oxide materials (which are inherently safe earth minerals) and increase the usable surface area and pore volume. These increases allow us to take advantage of the whole volume of our material for chemical neutralization and not just the outside surface. We get the activity of nanomaterials, without being a nanoparticle.
